  1. Captain John Oravec aka: "Troutman" celebrates his 42nd year as a charter fishing guide, writer and fishing educator. "Guiding is my passion" he says. He works the lower Niagara River (Dec 15 - April 15), Lake Ontario (May - Sept), then shifts to the St Lawrence River in the fall. He has written for In-Fisherman Magazine, appeared in an award-winning Great Lakes video (produced by In-Fisherman), and recently wrote an article on Winter Steelhead appearing in Lake Ontario Outdoors. As the salmon fishery developed in Lake Ontario, Captain John was there to pioneer it.

  2. Capt. John is proud to offer one of the finest selections of charter fishing in Upstate NY. According to Capt. John "Every year I concentrate my guiding on prime sport fisheries during the peak activity periods on Lake Ontario, the St Lawrence River and the Niagara River". Capt. John has a program for your enjoyment whether you be a beginner or expert.

  3. Both of Capt. John's boats are hand picked for the specific type of waters and fishing techniques as he applies them. From the very stable 10 meter Trojan International for the big waters of Lake Ontario to the 20ft Lund utilized on both the St Lawrence and Niagara Rivers.

  4. What drives Capt. John is being able to enjoy the enthusiasm of every angler that steps on his boat whether it be a new angler or a returning client(some of whom have fished with him for 20+ years). Part of the unwritten code of this fraternity is that Capt. John is committed to his clients by providing not only fine fishing trips, but also superb customer service. From initial booking, lodging information, travel information, weather and fishing conditions, his service provides for consistant fishing action and an enjoyable day on the water everytime.

Making your fishing adventure wether it be on Lake Ontario aboard our 33ft Trojan (Troutman) for 3 - 6 anglers for Salmon and Trout, or either the Niagara or St Lawrence River aboard our 20ft Lund (Johnny O) for 1 - 3 for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass or Musky, day trolling or river drifting a memorable success is assured by our trip plan.

From initial contact to your reservation confirmation, Capt. John helps you with the details in a hassel free process. Our exclusive Final Confirmation allows you to check in with Captain John before leaving for your fishing adventure to make sure the water and the weather conditions are right for safe, comfortable and productive fishing when you arrive. This is Capt John's method for quality control for a great fishing adventure everytime.

Capt John believes that hard work and versatility leads to consistency, so expect a full days fishing on the water. It is your option to catch and release or keep the fish. Kept fish are professionally filleted and freezer bagged for you free of charge.

We get' em.
